Fixed how? In a default setup RDI running as a user (as it should be) cannot launch an Admin process and will get a error message if you try. However this is deemed to restrictive by some so they turn down the UAC on their Windows to allow a User process to launch an Admin process sans elevation. Then IM will start but cannot actually update the files. But unlike other operating systems Windows does not block the actions, just ignores writes to protected files but allows the writing to files that don’t exist in protected directories and this results in a corrupted IM install and the license becoming nodelocked (nonfunctional).

So rather than turning down the UAC why not just do a User install then it would not be a problem. But convenience is everything I guess? As a result of the quest for convenience over security I am hearing the story more where a company gets hit with ransomware then the users are blocked from *any* updates to their PCs and have to get some admin person to do updates or installs of RDI. Oddly enough this only seems to be for Windows-centric places not Mac or Linux 😉

So, Mac-on, dude. Heh heh …

Mike: why can’t that stuff be fixed? Windows limitations or something. Not
complaining I even got it installed and licensed on Big Sur just genuinely
curious

I have the same question/issue. My IBM RDi license type says "permanent"
and status "license key available". My RPG and COBOL tools says "trial"
and "license key has expired". I am not able to use RDi at all. I get a
license error when I try to expand object list. I didn't think the
"tools" was a required license to use RDi.

FWIW, this is RDi 9.6.0.

Currently, my License Type is "Trial". I went to "Manage Licenses" today
to see how much longer the trial lasts. I was surprised to see the license
status was "License key available".

So, I clicked on Apply License, which fired up Installation Manager. It
shows RDi 9.6.0.11 with a permanent license, and "RPG and COBOL Tools" with
a trial license. I select the latter, and click the "Import product
Activation Kit". It then asks for the repository, of which I am unaware.

So, I guess I'm wondering what "License key available" actually means. Is
this referring to the permanent RDi license or the trial "RPG and COBOL
Tools" license?
