An "auto-rename" feature when copying members would be great to have. The main problem (you already mentioned it) is to find a "free" name. It is easy to say:
* add a suffix
* shorten the name when too long
But what could be the exact rules for it? Should these rules be editable?
The next problem is that each new name has to be checked for duplicates, which may take significant time. For example, when you add a number to the end of the name, that name may already exist. Of course you can increment the number, but the name has to be checked again.
Regards,
Thomas.

Betreff: [WDSCI-L] iSphere Copy Member Dialog
Hi,
I have a question for the iSphere plugin developers.
First - iSphere is great, and it saves me a lot of time every days.
But would it be possible, to add a feature to the Copy Members dialog?
If copying members that exist in the target library, it would be great to have a feature, that
if the target member exists, it does rename the target members by some scheme?
Maybe a selection like „Replace existing members“ - but like „Rename existing members“. The renaming could be with a suffix (e.g. „MEMBER“ -> „MEMBER.1“) and if the original member name is to long, shorten it, to hold the suffix.
This would be a great addition to this nearly perfect feature.
I would try and/or help to implement this myself, but I would need some „quick start developing iSphere tutorial“, because I’ve never done Eclipse plugin development.
Thanks and kind regards,
Daniel
