Number one reason I use RDI, is that I am LAZY! Love the shortcut "Ctrl+Shift+C" for quick compile. And hit enter to commit the save of my last changes. Awesome!
PS. Sometimes I have a re-paint issue. I just click on another view, and then back on my member and the compile menu is back!

The simplest work around to the save and then compile delay, is to
initiate the compile before the save (via Ctrl-Shift-C for example) you
will be prompted to save and the compile will happen automatically. Less
clicks and headaches.
