I think generally people probably still use source physical files on the i for their source code, although it is certainly possible to store your code in the IFS and compile your stuff with a build system that allows that.
As for RDi not supporting /copy files located in the IFS, it does and it doesn't. :-) Right clicking on a `/copy` or `/include` line to view an included file's source code does not work, as you've said. But RDi seems to actually locate and interpret IFS copy files. I just tested this by creating an RPG and an include file in the IFS. The include file defined a variable that was used in the main RPG file. Hovering over the variable in RDi (in the main RPG file) actually revealed a tooltip showing the variable's attributes.
If you're wanting to use the IFS for version control purposes, you could always store the source in source physical files on the i, and then use i Projects to make local source code copies on your PC. The local copies would then be part of a Git repository, and after making edits RDi would send the changes down to the i so you could build your project.

subject: [WDSCI-L] source location IFS or source PF
I am looking for some feedback on where to store source code.
I am a new user to RDI and really enjoy getting away from SEU. I know
RDI doesnt support /copy files located in IFS. Hoping that will be
addressed in later versions.
Pros/Cons?
