Yes, I have! It is a great option! Love the flexibility of RDI! <Joy Joy>

I have had no issues with RDi with large XML files or IFS files in general - but I don't doubt what you say.

For me of course Notepad++ is not an option.

Have you tried a setting up RDi so you can launch Notepad+_ from a right click?

Jon,

IFS performance inside of RDI is TERRIBLE. At least for me it is, especially if I have a lot of files. If it is small files and just a few, then RDI works okay...

Okay, I do not blame RDI, but rather Eclipse for the lack luster performance.

So, for me, I often discover it is about 100/1000 times fast to go directly to the folder and use notepad to edit/browse IFS files.

I create a whole bunch of temporary XML files, which can number in the 1,000 plus... So Eclipse/RDI does not handle that well.

Eclipse is not designed to open rather large XML file, the performance is TERRIBLE. For small files it is AWESOME, but not for large files.

So, I have repeatedly discovered it a whole better just to use NotePad++ for the IFS files over 500K or larger.

Not worth my time for an RFE, when NotePad++ works GREAT!!! No reason to write a RFE for me. I only have to look at the IFS when I get a problem once every 6-12 months.

And when I am REQUIRED to insert HUGE SQL Statements into RPG-TEST
unit scripts. Once again NotePad++ blows away LPEX. For splitting SQL
Statements. Where I am force to truncation at punch-card column-100.
<disappointment> Even using **Free, I am still constricted by
punch-card limitations of QRPGLESRC. :( Oh well, no plan to switch our
source over to IFS, which would eliminate that. :(

I guess that is why we have some many tools! Use the right tool for
the job! <Joy Joy>

Interesting - it must be checking in the background all the time.

RFE time again?

Yes. With Notepad++ You'll get a notification that the file changed and do you want to reload it.

How does that help? Does it do a refresh any time the underlying file changes? Surprising if it does.

If I open an IFS file in RDi, and the contents change, the only way I know of the refresh the editor is to close and reopen the file. Is there an easier way to do this?

TIA
