Are you sure you did the last step as well? It is confusing because it does not take effect from the preferences without the last step, which is outside the preferences.
Last step: Then Click the down arrow again on the right hand side of the view and select "Show columns" -> "Customized".

You need to Click the down arrow on the right hand side of the Object Table view, then preferences...
Then remove "Option" from the "Selected columns". Then Click the down arrow again on the right hand side of the view and select "Show columns" -> "Customized".

I've always used the object table myself using the IBM i Editing perspective first put together by SoftLanding Systems.
So, now how do I get rid of the option column? I can't get it to go away!

Just to add to Edmund's note...
The PDM perspective is just the Object Table View given focus with the RSE View taken away. For RSE users, just put the Object table view into focus in the RSE perspective, then you have the all of the new features plus the RSE features in one perspective. If you load an existing filter into the Object table view you will quickly see the power that it offers to help you create new filters and work with your existing filters.
It's like having a PDM view and tree view of your system in one place.

Give the new Object Table a chance. Give it focus and hit Ctrl-Shift-Q
for quick filters
This is a very powerful way to quickly create the filter you desire.
You
can then save and load from RSE so it complements and adds to the power of
RSE.
Note that you can type in user actions in the option column
Also the Subset tab is blazing fast to quickly find things
The PDM perspective is just a simplified perspective that will be easier
for new people to start with. For experienced folks I would recommend at
least add the RSE view behind the outline view.
