Yeah you have to use slash style comments in fully **free...

However, you don't need to worry about /COPY members, they can stay in
fixed form...

OK now I see! :)

I stopped using the "slash-free" a long time ago. Somewhere I missed
"asterisk-asterisk-free".

I'm on v7r3 - just upgraded a few weeks ago. Have the latest TR.
Added **free as the first statement in one of my source members, but now
it doesn't like my comments where I used single asterisk in column 7. I
would have to change the comments in my source members and all the /copy
members.

Eeek. Maybe I'll just leave things alone for now.

Thanks Dan (and Ken)!

Greg, I'm not sure if this was lost in the conversation, but there is a
difference between /free and **free.

/free and /end-free (which we've had for years now, and which are no
longer required in the latest compilers to be able to use) still limits
code to columns 8 through 80.

**free is much newer, only on v7r1 and up, and with appropriate TR & PTF
levels. You specify **free in columns 1 through 6 of the first statement
in your source. With this, you can put live code beginning in column 1 and
ending at whatever your line length happens to be.

Oh, and 112 is the default length for QRPGLESRC and is what I presume the
vast majority of shops use.

Record length . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : 112

So the question is... can I change this (lengthen) without screwing up
my source? If so, what is a common length?
