It's a hard design decision I suppose.  Maybe if there was a "Font never smaller than..." option it would work OK.

Both options take a little getting used to, but I think the "fixed font" is
probably the closest to what you want.

I've just switched font scaling off and I'm going to work with it for a
while (the font size change bothered me, too) but I am not keen on it at
the moment.
