FYI, when you drag these tabs off to new windows the Eclipse part of RDI creates new gui containers in workbench file.
\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.e4.workbench\workbench.xmi
In past versions of Eclipse these containers could get "lost" and either hold open source or effectively kill your workspace.
The worst case results in RDI crashing during startup with a message in the log about not being able to locate a container from the workbench.xmi.
Another case is when a member gets held open in the editor, but its tied to a container that has been hidden. So it remains open in the background and if you try to open it again RDI doesn't reopen it in the current visible editor window.
From what I've found the easiest way to correct these type of issues is to close and then reopen the perspective in RDI.
You can close a perspective from the Window drop down menu, select Close Perspective.
As a suggestion, you can set a desired layout and then save the perspective. That makes it easier to close and reopen it later.
I tend to do this every time I setup a new workspace. I create a new workspace with the default Remote System Explorer perspective, then drag things around until I have them where I want them. Then save that perspective to a new name, like "RSE", or "RSE-Wide" for when I use two monitors.
Then every once in a while I just close and reopen the perspective. This cleans up stuff in the workbench file that could cause issues.
The crash is the hardest to recover from and requires manually editing the workbench file trying to locate the offending container.
It's usually easier to just recreate the workspace.

Is there a way to move a tab to a different window? It'd be handy to be able to drag a pane over to a separate screen. Side-by-side is great but sometimes...
