This is a typical example of useless IBM PC software I'm afraid and the source of endless wasted hours! You need to completely remove the old installation manager, using CCLean is probably the easiest way or you can find instructions on how to do it manually on Google (here's for Windows XP, I think it's the same for other flavours of Windows http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21503338), just uninstalling it is not enough.

Then you need to install the latest installation manager or the one included in your installation package.

Tim.

Ken,

When I attempted to uninstall the old copy of 8 it told me it could not uninstall because " install location is missing or empty.", so as a result of not being able to uninstall the older version I cannot uninstall Installation Manager. So it would seem that the problem is I cannot uninstall that old version. I tried searching through the registry with REGEDIT but was unable to find its entries.

Thanks for sharing.

Danny,

When I re-install RDI, Here I what I do. But our company license is probably different from your license. And we also have a support contract for continued updates.

1.) Uninstall RDI COMPLETELY "As Administrator"
2.) Uninstall IBM Installation Manager "As Administrator"
3.) Delete the Old IBM install Folder, which should be empty
4.) Empty the recycle bin
5.) Download RDI Demo. (In your case, you old RDI 8 install)
6.) Install RDI DEMO "As Administrator"
Which re-creates the install folders that I had deleted.
7.) Use our License Jar to apply the permanent license.

I have never had an issues doing that way.

But, you are talking about an older version "8". I believe it still should work. The trick is getting your license applied...

There should be absolutely no reason to reformat your hard-drive...

You big issue is finding a way to re-apply your license. Which I assume you backed up somewhere. My assumption...

If you just want it for a 60-day demo, just download the latest here:
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/downloads/r/rdi/index.html

PS. I strongly recommend have a support contract for RDI to get the latest, and stay update in our rapidly changing IT world, a.k.a. IBM i. OS for the 21st century. Our company pays Mega bucks for Microblows Visual Studio license. Which is much more costly than RDI!

Hopefully, you might find this helpful.

I am trying to reinstall RDi on my home unit, I had an older demo version on that I had ceased using because I was not working from this computer.

Now I need to, but ... well here is what I got:

[cid:image001.png@01D29259.DBB4CE90]
The graphic says (in case you cannot see it)
CRIMA1267E: The "SDP Licenses" package group's "C:\Program Files\IBM|Installation Manager\SDPpaks" install location is missing or empty.
Explanation: Installation Manager did not find the installation directory for the package group.
User Action:Uninstall all the packages in this package group and reinstall them.

I have uninstalled everything I can (multiple times) except Installation Manager, and it will not allow me too, because there is an even older version of RDP, 8 something, I think.

When I try to uninstall that I get this lovely missive:

CRIMA1161E: Failed to find required installation files.

Explanation: Installation Manager did not find required installation files from the repository. An issue has occurred with the package that cannot be resolved by Installation Manager.

User Action: If the repository files were transferred from a different location before the installation, verify that the files were not altered during the transfer operation. Copy the repository files to a different location and install from that location. If the repository files were not transferred note the package name and version number and contact customer support.
I have even tried to go through REGEDIT, but I cannot find the references to the old install.

Is there perhaps a tool to clean old installs or some way to wipe this without having to format my disk, or purchasing a new machine?

Thanks & Regards,
Danny Hayes
