Hi Jon,

That was why I suggested moving the project to SourceForge. I do not
think that it is very difficult to fix the problems. But I do not have
time for that. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Thomas.

Thanks Thomas, I'll take a look at it when I get 5.

I agree that most people would come to you looking for fixes and that would be an issue. If Craig agrees to move the code to SourceForge it would be possible that others could work to fix these things.

Hi Jon,

The very first test version of the JCRCMDS plug-in can be downloaded or
installed from the following update site:

http://jcrcmds.tools400.de/beta-version/eclipse/rdi8.0/

I just asked Craig whether or not I can put it on SourceForge as project
"JCRCMDS".

Sadly the JCRHFD utility has a few defects. The following examples has
been taken from FNDSTR of iSphere:

a) Example 1:

Selection:
fQSRCF IF F 240 Disk ExtFile(GIFILE)
f ExtMbr(GIMBR)
f InfDs(srcMbrInf)
f UsrOpn

Converts to:
Nothing returned from the JCRHFD command.

b) Example 2:

Selection:
fQSRCF IF F 240 Disk ExtFile(GIFILE)
f ExtMbr(GIMBR)
f InfDs(srcMbrInf)
f UsrOpn

d srcMbrInf ds likeds(infDS_DB_t)

Converts to:
dcl-f QSRCF disk(240) ... extmbr(gimbr) infds(srcmbrinf)
usropn;

likeds(infds_db_t);
d srcMbrInf ds likeds(infDS_DB_t)

The dcl-f statement is OK but too long for the posting. Therefore I
shortened it.

c) Example 3:

Selection:
pFNDSTR_...
pgetHandle...
p B Export
dFNDSTR_...
dgetHandle...
d PI 10S 0 <-- Handle

Converts to:
;
dcl-proc export;
;
; // <-- Handle
d PI 10S 0 <-- Handle

"<-- Handle" has be moved to the left to shorten the line for the posting.

Because of my workload with iSphere, I honestly do not want to maintain
the JCRCMDS plug-in, too. For sure people would primarily report these
defects to me. No fun. Of course I am willing to create a WDSCi version
but no more. Therefore it would be great if somebody else is willing to
join the project providing that Craig agrees to move the project to
SourceForge.

I started studying the ANTLR v4 parser
(https://github.com/tools400/rpgleparser) and maybe that there will be a
time, when iSphere has an integrated conversion utility. But that is
nothing more than a thought, today.

Regards,

Thomas.

And does a pretty poor job of it too.

IBM will not do the conversion. It has been their policy since way back when RPG IV was first introduced to only do the absolute basics in conversion and leave it to the tools market to do the real thing.

Linoma's tool is great - I've been using it for years. Arcad's is good too - my only quibble is that you can't simply highlight a block of code in the editor as you can with Linoma. You have to convert a whole program. On the plus side, it can get rid of GOTOs and other ugliness because it has some re-engineering capabilities that Linoma do not have.

Craig Rutledge's tools do the conversion but there's no direct support in RDi - I keep hoping the iSphere crew will add it to their collection.

That option is still there. But that only converts the C-specs.

RDi 9.0 Select(highlight) the code you wish to convert. Right click.
2nd item on the context menu.

Can't believe they removed that in newer versions?

Can RDi (Version: 9.5.1.0) convert code from fixed format or /free to the newer **free format? I haven't found a way yet.

Thanks.
