This is good information...

But...

I have to Green-Screen 5250 HELP, a.k.a. F1, to find this little tip. <sigh>

Sure would be nice if I could point out this tip INSIDE of HELP inside of RDI...

Just like you can do a substring of a large variable, by using the %substr on the variable with the Monitor view.

Nowhere to be found in the help, not the least I can find anyway. Why can't I press help on the monitor view and find this?

I get this in help:

Topic not found

The topic that you have requested is not available. The link may be wrong, or you may not have the corresponding product feature installed. This online help only includes documentation for features that are installed.

For variables longer than 1024 you need to add them to the monitor expression view and type "variable :C length" in the input line, where variable are your variable and length is the amount to see.

You will not be able to still see the entire amount in the view but you can double click the variable and it open another dialog in which you can copy the entire string.

Warning, with varying length strings the "variable :C length" will report back the varying integer value so you will have to delete two to four characters.

Thanks, Matt
