8. For me, I heard that black text on yellow background is the most easy
to read. So I went into "Define Custom Colors", and I set the color to:
Red: 255
Green: 255
Blue: 204

Depending on the color that you pick, you may need to change colors for
other settings. But with the color I picked, I didn't have to change too
much.

By the way, if you are an old guy like me, this LPEX Editor/Appearances
panel is a good place to increase the font size and use something better
looking than ugly old Courier-New. Just be sure that you pic a
mono-spaced font (Consolas or Lucida Console are decent choices).

I find that inconsolata is a fantastic mono-spaced font. I use it in
wdsc (virtual windows box) and for my "terminals" (xfce debian). Not
only is it clear, it can also be shrink to quite tiny proportions and
still retain its readability. The version you need is the opentype
(.otf) file; the link is near the bottom of the page.
