Hi all

I'm really not sure just how stringent the checking is - nonetheless, we don't give the client to more people than the licenses we have - they are all authorized user licenses - floating just doesn't seem cost-effective, certainly not for us.

Maybe if I get REALLY bored I'll do a Wireshark trace!

Cheers
Vern

Me either, I'm just going on the fact that a floating license requires a
license server running somewhere.

And that when I start up my named user instance, I've noticed a "checking
license status" message..

No idea Charles. I just assumed that you had to disconnect in some
fashion.

Hopefully a user or one of the IBM crew can answer that.

Jon,

I assumed the floating license allocated when RDi was started and was
release when RDi was shut down...

Is that not the case? It's a manual process?

Interesting...

OK - so you and the other two companies that bought floating licenses
have
more of a problem Dan <evil grin>

In your case you would need to actually release the license from one
machine before moving to the other.

Wait. What? What if his company has a floating license, like mine
does. I
don't think I'm allowed to install RDi on my work and personal
laptop. I
would be glad to be officially proven wrong.

Yes it does.

The license is effectively for a user. As long as that user is not
running
it on two devices at the same time it is not a problem.

which
