I also voted for that one when I first saw it.
But, the "oneSpace" is a great workaround.
Where do you find these things?

There is an RFE to allow for the elimination of the space when doing
Alt-j:

I voted for it because I like the idea very much.
Then I stumbled upon action oneSpace. Until we get this RFE fulfilled,
oneSpace may help those circumstances where there are many spaces to delete.
Cursor to line to be joined to.
End to get to end of line.
Alt-j to join the following line to this one.
Escape to get to the command line.
action oneSpace
--if you use this a lot, up arrow will summon it from the hstory
Enter.
Escape to get back to the editor.
