Went through all the buttons. No luck, but probably missed it. Also went into Installation Details in the hopes that an overall view might help, but nothing seen there either.

All I can say is: Every time I think I am an adequate programmer/developer, I'm shown just how much I COULD learn if given the desire and need. Fortunately I can rely on developers like those at Eclipse and IBM (as well as iSphere) to give me tools that can be used in my puny effort to keep users busy.

Kudos and accolades to them all.

There are a bunch of buttons on the help about - one of them is for eclipse, and in there it is likely you'd see the version or versions of the several components.

I've not taken time to find another place where the Eclipse version is reported.

I've got RDi 9.5.0.2, but can't find a reference at all to Luna in any of the installation.

Did I miss something on the installation? Or am I missing something on the massive installation reference "help about"?

It wouldn't surprise me.

Duane,

Sorry, my mistake, I am using Luna 4.4.2, just a typo on my part. It is the one that comes with RDI 9.5.0.2.

I like Mars 4.5, which has a better "Dark" theme for windows 10. But, that is Brand new, not even out a year. Eventually, RDI will update on some future release.

Ken,

Interesting. I am interested in making RDi more desirable to use for my compadres as some of them seem to be stuck in the SEU world. I looked for the settings you suggested to see if I could imitate them and found on Eclipse.org that Luna is a "past version of Eclipse".

I have a short attention span and less time that I would like to be able to figure things out, but my version of Eclipse is 4.4.2.v2015... which loaded sometime when I put RDi on my system and hopefully Eclipse was upgraded when I upgraded to the most recent version of RDi. I haven't thought that it wouldn't have.

Why are you still using Luna 4.2 when 4.4 is available, and why when it is a "past version"? And why would you use something other than what is automatically loaded by IBM during the process of loading RDi? (Never mind the stupid, I mean unintelligent, questions.) Is it possible that some of the issues you have from time to time are related? Remember that I have a short attention span and really have only used RDi for about 6 months to a year. I came from using WDSC and still never learned how to effectively use it to the best advantages.

I too have learned to like and use the Compile Errors list and even developed a QAD Excel that will compare the list (from copy/paste) to another spreadsheet containing the list of fields in a file to determine easily which fields ARE being used in the file, since the outline can be deceptive and not fully display field usage. I like how if I'm working with a large program the Errors list can take me right to the line that's in error too.

Edmund,

I find the pop view Error List to be my number one bragging rights about RDI. If I have errors, first thing I want to do is examine and correct errors. Works that way in other IDE like Visual Studio, JetBrains, NetBeans, etc...

Ctrl+Shift+C=Compile, run my last selected compile command. And I see my error immediately, except for the build errors. Then I have to look at the view Command. Which you have also have to go the Job-Log with Green Screen Compile.

To drive the point home to the newbies, one of the first thing I do is make a BOLD OUTLINE color on the Active Window, which is available with Eclipse Luna 4.2. I have them pick their favorite color, Blue, Red, Green, Orange, etc...

And then I point out how the Compile Errors list gets compiled, and they CANNOT compile an Error-Listing! Because it jumps to their compiler error immediately! The bold color of the outline ACTIVE view-pane drives what is ACTIVE/Has Focus! They all LOVE THAT! This has helped to eliminate confusion.

Window>Preferences>General>Appearance>Colors and Fonts
* View and Editor Folder
* Active part background begin & End.
(Note: I think you have to select "Classic Theme" for this to work...)

I then point out the F12 to activate the editor. And then it starts... Too many "shortcuts Keys" to remember. I say that is okay, click with your mouse on your source member. For whatever reason, our newbies HATE Shortcut keys.

Edmund,

The message box might be obtrusive and annoying.
I don't think it would be any more annoying or obtrusive than opening (even if it is closed) and displaying (even if it is minimized) the error list after EVERY COMPILE, good OR bad. I've been fighting that one for years now. It steals focus away from where I am typing -- really annoying. I guess that "the Eclipse way" though.

Most of the time I compile objects interactively and hence I expected
to get a message dialog for a failing command much the same as on a

But it might be worth to improve RDi to either display the "Error List"
or the "Commands Log" depending on the availability of *EVENTF entries.

Would making the Commands Log view visible if a command (that does

Hi Vern,

The problem has nothing to do with the *EVENTF option. There are
lots of commands that do not have that option and I wonder how to
get noticed by RDi when such a command fails.

Today, I had a problem with a command of our change management
system that sent an *ESCAPE message, which was silently ignored by
RDi. Then I did additional tests and tried to compile a RPGLE source
member with CRTFOODCMD (which does not exist) and CRTTBL (which
should not understand a RPGLE source).

Guess what? Nothing happened what I tried to compile the module from
an RSE source member filter. That is really bad, when you are in a
hurry and you think that it compiled just fine.

At least I would like to see an option to enable a popup message box
when:
* a command, that does not have specified *EVENTF, failed
* there is a typo in a custom compile command

The popup is not really necessary (maybe even annoying) when the
command created *EVENTF information.
