Buck,

Unfortunately, I don't recall the exact error messages. I used ESS and Download Director to obtain the entire package for v9.1. In hindsight, this was a complete waste of my time - and I've since deleted everything I downloaded yesterday.

I think my issue was that everything was .iso (disk image files) inside zip files. Even after extracting the ZIP files, I was left with directories containing ISO files. I tried to point the installation manager to those - thinking it may extract the images - but it was only looking for the JAR file.
I made things worse by trying to point IM to an existing v9.1 JAR file copied from my other PC. This created even more errors related to directories that weren't on this new PC.

Why on earth software is delivered in this fashion is beyond me... maybe the package contains the host side software as well? But many of us (including ALL of IBM) are using laptops that no longer have a DVD/CD drive. I'm moving to a Lenovo Ultrabook.

What has changed?
After speaking with Farzi (IBM support), she suggested I forego installation of v9.1 in favor of v9.5. I downloaded Installation Manager, and used it to point to a URL as a repository rather than something existing on my laptop (i.e. the .iso files). I did see this option (for both versions) in one of the half-dozen documents provided in an earlier response.

I believe someone said v9.5 install is new/improved? I don't know.

I'm still trying to get the remainder of my environment recreated (i.e. Data Studio)... I'm in a bit of a time crunch (vacation next week). So I don't think I'll be able to update the wiki. I've spent the entire week thus far installing software on this machine, and I'm still not finished. Client Access System I Navigator is still crashing.

I started a wiki page for installation.
http://wiki.midrange.com/index.php/RDi_Install You aren't the only one
who's expressed frustration about this aspect of RDi. My comments below
should be taken in that vein.

By the bye, I see you have it installed; will you consider writing the
wiki page? It is certainly going to be freshest in your mind...

So I have a pretty simply installation... I had RDi installed, Data Studio, iSphere plug, and nothing more. I have my workspace saved and copied over to the new PC. Is there a document on how best to complete the task of re-installation? What's the best method to quickly restore my environment to what it was before?

Firstly, I concur that installation should be click and done. However:

I copied the unzipped v9.1 folder over to my new machine, but
it won't install - something about installation manager.

This is not easy for me to replicate. I'm assuming that you mean that
you copied the installation folder, but the installation 'folder' is
actually multiple folders which cross several DVDs. WHICH folder did
you copy?

'... it won't install...' - is there a specific error? How did you
attempt to do the install, exactly what thing did you click on?

'...something about installation manager.' - again, with more to work
on, it would be easier to understand exactly what is happening.

Secondly, what has changed between the time you last installed RDi and
today? From a wiki perspective, this is salient because my recollection
is that installing 9.0, 9.1, and 9.5 all worked exactly the same way,
but it seems clear to me that I'm mis-remembering something. I'd like
to correct my incorrect assumption before I update the wiki.
