I still have a maximise button in RDi 9.5. Are the changes made to Eclipse that you mention also reliant on the Windows version as well? (I'm on Win7 Pro x64)

In the previous version I was using I had the usual minimize, maximize

Now I only have minimize and restore. Where did maximize go? This is

many others. This can't have been deliberately removed?

Double-click on the editor tab to maximise, and to restore the view.

Why? RDi is based on Eclipse, and relies on the Eclipse framework for a lot of basic display functionality. Between RDi 7 and 9 (I can't exactly recall) the Eclipse people altered the way windows work. RDi had a choice: continue using an already old version of Eclipse (and keep the windowing the same), or move to the newer version of Eclipse and take the hit.

I didn't much care for the new window handling myself, but I'm glad we're on a pretty current version of Eclipse.
