Some fun facts:

IBM's original RPG ran on the S360/20 and then it was the primary language
for the new S/3 in 1972.

The 96 column punch card (128 print positions) was invented for this system.

When IBM came out with their ATM, the S/3 MFCU (Multi-Function Card Unit)
guts was adapted for the ATM printer. Yep,that's right, the ATM receipts
were in fact 96 columns cards!

Does anyone remember the NPRO button? Non Process Run Out to clear the card
path. Takes me back!

And lastly, I have PAPER TAPE from Burroughs L9000/DC140 systems. That is
the oldest media I still have!

Vern,

Not daily, but maybe weekly and/or bi-weekly, and very intermediately.

Last time, I called over my co-workers, just to make sure I was NOT going
CRAZY...

They saw that I could not type, hit delete, and that my cursor
disappeared. Then I clicked on many different views, and then it finally
got the "signal" to work again. The CPU at 10%, and resources were
available. As confirmed by Dot-Netter co-workers, who have reliable Visual
Studio.

Anyway, restarting always at least temporary fixes keyboard errors, or
clicking on at least 3-different views... <Perplexing>

Ken

I don't know what you are doing that raises these issues. I don't have to
restart RDi ever, yet you report it's a daily issue.

Admittedly, I don't do any debugging in RDi - perhaps that will change now
that we'll have a 5250 emulation IN RDi.

I have also been a user of the M$ IDEs and find them to be most excellent.
Some of the new indentation support is bringing us closer to how it is when
editing VB, I think.

Now one of the challenges is, the editor still needs to support the 8-80
style of source data, with the mixed free and fixed stuff, too.

I do get surprised by some of the repaint issues and repositioning that
seems odd. But it's not been enough to warrant, for me, raising too many
alarms - although I might eventually!

Cheers
Vern

I just wondering if they are going to have the fixes for "re-paint"

Intermediate, not full time. But still very annoying!

Like the save-icon not working, as the dot-netters laugh, and say it
works in Microsoft products. <frown> As they hear me cussing.

Every so often my delete key stops working, cursor disappears. And force
to create new workspace. Not very often, but still happens. That does not
happen in Microsoft Products.

If I could repeat the error on a consistent basis, I would open dozens
of PMR to get these fixed. But it is quirky, and I have no clue why it
happens. It "seems" to happen most when I am debugging a program for some
strange reason. Not repeatable tough. That is the part that drives me
BONKERS!!!! And I KNOW for a fact, I am NOT THE ONLY ONE...
<sad face>

OH well, I need shut-up. I need to get use to re-starting RDI several
times during the day. And then maybe re-create new work-space and move on
is the motto for this product.

A new release is NO GOOD, if it breaks things that worked fine in a
previous release. I hope and pray that IBM does QUALITY control on this
release BEFORE releasing it to the public...

Yes, I am skeptical, as past experience have taught me that...
<Big Frown>

New features are worthless, if the base package is not 100% stable...

PS. I hope I eat humble-pie and crow!!!!
<Big Smile>

RDI user for over 9-years now. Still a WHOLE LOT BETTER than SEU, even
with it occasion "quirks"... <smirk>

Speak of which, does the LPEX editor have a way to turn on Word-Wrap
like other editors?

Microsoft Visual Studio, Microsoft Word, NotePad++, just to name a few
that has word-wrap. Do we have that in RDi? I can't find it.

For XML documents, I use the horizontal scroll bar. Which is okay, I
guess.

I would love a ZOOM in/out on the LPEX Text size. But, I know there is
already a PFE out there for that. Maybe in next decade, we might get
that.

Vern, I'm all for the idea of more than 80, but if I ever had to read
code statements longer than about 120, I'd require a wrap-around
panoramic monitor (the single 21" flat screen just wouldn't cut it).
Let's keep it within a comfortable field of view, please. Just
because we can doesn't mean we should.
