Git's limitations for RPG-centric IBM i development are significant
(though understandable, because of platform, paradigm, and ecosystem
differences), but I have found that competent version control software
(of which Git is currently the leading example) provides me benefits
beyond what you've spelled out.

One is that version control reduces the incentive to keep around
obsolete commented-out code (or obsolete comments of any kind). So
code can become clean and readable again, instead of a jungle of
comments.

Similarly, it reduces the incentive to keep around archival versions
of source members. The history is stored efficiently by the version
control software and easily retrievable if you need it.
