I have had success copying/pasting from a text editor with the preference -
LPEX Editor - Block type, set to stream. As long as the text file has the
same number of of initial spaces as your source file, the source will paste
without needing additional editing.

OK... pulled this thread out again. Does anyone know how to get this to
work with something copied from a text editor (or excel)??

I have a long list of column headers that I would like to paste into my
source code (writing column headers). These options don't seem to work
when the copied content comes from another source. Or do I have to go back
to SEU again and do a few rows at a time?

I've been using code block copy/pasting in RDi for many years now.
Alt-R first position
Alt-R second position.
Alt-Z where I want to put the block overlay paste.

Alt-F8 shifts everything from the cursor position to the right, just as
Alt-F7 shifts it to the left, so what you're talking about Alt-F8 makes
complete sense, although I'm not sure why it's a part of the block paste
conversation.

Roger,

That's exactly what I'm talking about. I have that need all the time -
overlay a block of code.

Mike,

The blocking does not behave that way - or I have not been able to. Even
when you use the ALT keys to mark/move a block of text, it still moves
characters to the right of the blocked text (i.e. if you have comments out
to the right of code, then block the code, and then use ALT-F8 to move the
code to the right, the comments move also).

I tried the overlay option, but that doesn't seem to work. In fact, the
code blocking itself is sometimes quirky (clicking sometimes causes a
different block to be created, etc.).

I don't believe that the copy-paste in PCOMM is exactly pure Windows but
rather augmented by PCOM to give the rectangular (non-stream) copy-paste
behaviour.

In LPEX if you use ALT+R to mark then ALT+C to copy does that not do what
you wish?

I would love to be able to do block oriented copy/paste.

For example:
d Field1 s 1a
d Field2 s 3p 0 d Field..n s
7p 2

I'd like to be able to paste the block of field names like this:
Field1
Field2
Field..n

And then add to the end of each line - which may also be a block
copy/paste. Easy in SEU with Windows copy/paste.

I gather it's a base Eclipse limitation as I haven't been able to
Google-ify a solution.

Greg,

You may already know this, and it may not be a solution, but I mention
it just in case it helps you cut/paste easier...

Alt-L marks (highlights) the line where the cursor is (use another
Alt-L to mark a block of lines), Alt-C copies the marked line or lines
to after the line where the cursor is, Alt-M moves the marked line or
lines to after the line where the cursor is. Alt-U will un-mark.

These are line oriented commands, and in my opinion, are much better
than trying to use the standard windows keys. Once you've got the hang
of it, it is remarkably quick and easy to copy and move code.

2. Displayed in RDi

IBM is (and has been) pushing the use of RDi and modular programming
(service programs and the like). Very ironic that they are "not compatible"
and this was somehow overlooked.

I've been using RDi for well over a year now... many times I find
myself
going back to the green screen (several times today) because of silly
issues with RDi. One of those issues is errors during the binding step. The
other is the quirky implementation of copying/pasting a blocks of text
(overlaying) like you can do with SEU.

Don't get me wrong... there are many advantages. But some days it
feels
like there are just as many disadvantages.

Sorry for the rant.
