The main reason is because I don't have to use the Mouse to complete the search and filter. You have to use a mouse to navigate to the "Filter" line of the outline view.
The second reason is the outline doesn't give you the scope. It doesn't, currently tell you the line of code is inside a subprocedure or subroutine.
Also, the outline can take a little while to build for every source member you open. A search and filter can be completed immediately.
The outline also includes every variable that is defined to the program, without any filter for the variables actually used.
Our system has a pretty big list of reference fields that we use with "Like" definitions.
Under some circumstances, I'll have to page down 30 times in the outline before I even get to the fields used by the program.
Don't get me wrong, I do use the outline view when its efficient to do so.
But most of the time doing simple searches is a lot faster than trying to scan through all the information the outline provides.

But why not just use the Outline view?
