Peter and Mark,
The preferences file does not contains entries for unchanged values. Since 21 is the default port number for FTP, it does not show up in the preferences file.
I assume we can consider that the problem was fixed back in December.

I also remember a 5-digit port, which I changed to 21 in order to upload the library.
It is now still 21, but I don't even have a .prefs file.

21474 was what appeared in my dialog and that is indeed the value that appears in the prefs file.
I can't be certain but I don't think that was the value that appeared the first time I tried this - I _think_ that was 2121.

In the example above the FTP port number has been changed from 21 (default value) to 2121.
Does the content of the file match your "strange" FTP port number?
Do you have any idea what might went wrong?
Can you reproduce the problem?
