I think we could come up with examples all day and wonder why but in the end until the complier does not support fixed form it's here to stay.

I didn't really just suggest it be removed did I?

On the other hand, there are managers that insist that enhancements to fixed-format programs be done in fixed format too (for whatever tenuous reason). Having RDI default to free-format gives programmers working under such a boss the excuse of, "but it wasn't me boss - the tool did it!"

Unfortunately you would be shocked at the number of folks who don't use free form.....

Usually it's an older program that just never gets updated, but there is quite a bit of it and my own take is to agree with Charles sentiment. I also recognize the reality that if the old formats are not readily and easily available, those programmers will not change the code, they'll just leave the product and stick with SEU; after all most of them were forced into using RDi anyway by enlightened management.

She's only asking about free format C-Specs...

Can't believe you'd have strict rules about PTFs yet still be on a release (pre v5r1) without free-format c-specs...

I'd tend to agree with Barbara...if you're using RDi you're probably using at least free form c-specs.

For another couple of months I'm in that group, since we have strict
rules about how long PTFs have to be out before we install them.

I understand your requirement and it sounds like a good candidate
for an RFE.
I am thinking

Have 2 check boxes
'Generate free-form declarations' -> (if this checked, free-form
calcs automatically checked and grey) -> assumes 7.1 functionality
'Generate free-form calculations'
If generate free-form declarations is NOT checked and free-form
calculations IS checked, then also generate /FREE /END-FREE

I wonder if anyone using RDI wants fixed-form calculations to be
generated any more.
