I suspect Robert may be on the right track here. Do you maybe have the editor message line and command line hidden in 8.5? If so, you can also hide them in 9.0 using Robert's directions below. On my setup, that gets me about 3 lines, which is what you've lost.
Note that if you hide the command line, it pops up if you switch to it, sort of like the Windows task bar does if you hide it. The message line, on the other hand, just disappears.

Go into Preferences-->LPEX Editor-->Controls and remove the check mark
next to Message Line. That will remove the line between the editor and
command line. There are other things on this list that can be unchecked
to gain more real estate in the editor.

I'm really not interested in changing from my preferred font, Consolas,
or changing to a larger monitor. The upgrade to RDi cost me a half-inch
of real estate at the bottom of the screen, which translates to three
lines of code. Is there a reason that the bottom section of the screen
doesn't pull down as far as the previous version? Changing the theme has
no effect on the number of lines displayed.
