You have to work in "Design Reports" view. The default "Design Records"
doesn't allow change. Within that view there is a tab for Report to the left of the Records tab. You can set report lines and Columns in that view.

Jeff,
I must be extra slow today.
I have selected the three record formats I want, and have font to:
Name: Arial monospaced for SAP
Size: 6
When I return to the Design tab, the font appears to be changed as requested, but the screen design area ends at 132.
I would like the design area to "extend" on the right to column 198 and show the rest of the heading and detail records, but don't yet know how to do that ?
This is an existing report created long before RDP, so I know the DDS is correct, the problem is my inexperience using RDP report design.
Thank you.

Gary,
You can set the forms width in the Design Reports window.
Select 1 or more formats then click Add.

I am trying to set Report Designer 8.0.3 to use 6 point "Arial
monospaced for SAP".
I can use the Configure Preferences button on the top right of the
Design reports view and select "Arial monospaced for SAP" from the
Font Settings section of the DDS Design window, but when I type 6 into
the Size: window and click the OK button and return to the Design Tab,
Font Size: shows 8 ?
Ok, maybe I live with that, so next I want to adjust the width of the
Design screen to show
198 columns to match the report I want to change, but have yet to find
how to do this ?
