James,

There was significant restructuring of the product between 8.5 and 9.0.

In 8.5, we had 1 product with 4 licensed features. One of those features
was the IBM i tooling. In addition, we also had various bundles with
other
products to add other capabilities. There was a bundle which provided EGL
support and another bundle which added advanced JEE/WAS tools.

In 9.0, the product was split into two products. One for IBM i. One for
AIX and Linux. For both of those, we also added in the JEE/WAS tools. For
RDi, this is an additional licensed feature but it is now part of RDi
itself instead of a 'bundle' with other products. So, the size increase
is
due to the additional tools that are part of RDi. For EGL support, it is
still a 'bundle' with RBD.

Whether you need all 4 four depends on what you select to install. If you
only select the RPG and COBOL Tools of RDi in English, you will not need
them all (but I think the first two at minimum).

Thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric,
great that the trial download for i is now available but there are
4 very large files on the download page, are they all required? The RDP
8.5 download was only one file at 1.5GB.

There are still changes pending for some of the product web pages but you
can do web installs of the RDi 9.0 trial.

Passport Advantage is updated with the new products now. I don't have
details for ESS but it should be orderable now. For both of those, it
would be download only. The physical media will not be available for a
bit
(I can't recall the date for that). The license key center should be able
to provide the activation kits now.

I will check on Monday regarding the trial download. Rational released
many IDE products today (RAD, RBD, RDz, etc.) which is great for any
customers who use the products together but the volume of web site updates
takes some time. In the case of RDi and RDAIXLinux, these are 'new'
products so they have a bit more setup involved.

If I recall, when RDP 8.0 came out, the trial version wasn't available for
a week or something like that. Customers with Passport Advantage Online
are the ones that get access immediately. ESS customers or those who will
download the trial and then apply their license have to wait longer.

I just spent close to a year pushing to get our ESS transferred to PPO.
Almost there, but not quickly enough - I'll have to wait for the trial
version. Can't wait, too. Fix list looks great.

Hi Eric
So how would customers download the product, if not through the trial
page?
Is there some instructions we can give them for downloading, installing
and
applying the license?

For RDi 9.0, the Fix List shows the large number of APARs and RFEs
resolved:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27038481

Web pages to download trials will be made available but are not live yet.
License activation kits from previous releases do not work with the 9.0
releases.

Eric
