If you fire up the IBM Installation Manager and click on Manage Licenses
what does it show you for License Type and Expiration Date for the RPG and
COBOL for i component?
That should give you a good indication of what license you have installed.

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies
I purchased #2 single user initial lic for $432 on passport advantage, but
when I went to download the license keys on rational it said I purchased
#3 a floating license, which goes for $764.
So rather than trying to change it, I just installed the license server,
and imported the lic key.
I guess IBM just gave me a deal.

Hi Vern,
My understanding (Eric correct me if I am wrong) is that there are 3
different types of licenses
1) Indefinite authorized user - the software belongs to one user on
multiple computers. Your license to use the software does not expire, but
your SWMA needs to be renewed.
2) Fixed term authorized user - the software can be used by one person for
up to one year. You will have to purchase another license after this
point.
3) Floating license - the software can be used be many different people,
but only one at a time. The license does not expire but SWMA will need to
be renewed.
I understood you to say that you had #3 but you wanted #1.
Most people get #1
#3 makes sense in a large shop where not everyone is using the software
all the time.
#2 only makes sense in limited scenarios, #1 will be cheaper if you use it
more than a couple years.

Hi Edmund
So the fixed-term authorized user is actually a floating license? In other
words, it can be used by one person at a time, but different people?
Thanks for clarification
Vern

Hi Dan,
You should be able to correct your order. The floating license is more
expensive than an authorized user license. It makes sense in a large shop
where you might have different people reusing the same license at
different times.
Just get a hold of your sales rep to correct the order. I believe the
sales rep will do a credit and then place a new order for authorized user
using the correct part number (D0C5FLL ). The order will then flow to the
License key center where you can download the activation kit (license
key).

The customer will need to contact their sales rep to help them to correct
the order. I believe the sales rep will do a credit and then place a new

Hi,
After using wdsc for a few years, I decided to upgrade to rdp. I bought a
single user license on passport advantage.
Then I went to get the key on rational license key center, it says I
bought a floating lic instead.
It asks for license server info. I really don't want to install the
server.
Do I have to get IBM to change the lic changed or can I just install the
floating lic.
thanks
