Luckily for me, my company upgraded us to RDP....

I had NO problems with WDSC 7.0 (overall)... <grin>
And I actually told my company, that WDSC 7 would be okay with me, and no reason to upgrade.

Some of the biggest Improvement that I found was that the OUTLINE View works MUCHER FASTER on RDP, and works on back-ground thread. So, on WDSC 7.0, I didn't use that much, because it locked up WDSC 7.0 session...
(Hour glass mouse-pointer, and had to wait until it finished) Only an issue on BIGGER programs.

Now, I use it ALL THE TIME, the outline view, because it is so FAST!

Along the same lines, they make the Search IBM I, (Search code on IBM i) to run in back-ground thread too! It also seems a lot faster too! No more session lock up! I can continue work in RDP, while the search is processing!

Of course, there are many other minor improvements too!

But, overall WDSC 7.0, meet/exceeded most of basic needs for development!

Just wanted to mention those great improvements, just for possible reasons to UPGRADE, from another RPGLE Developer. <Big Smile>

Anyway, I am glad that our company made the investment for RDP!

Getting the "Old Fossil Programmers" to try something "new" is a different story however... <LOL>
(By the way, I have been doing RPGLE development for over 22-years...)

And for the last 7-years, I have been using WDSC/RDI/RDP... <Big Smile>

Ditto. We've been on 7.1 on our development partition for months now, and WDSCi
7.0.0.8 Interim Fix 001 debugs just fine for me.

I've been using WDSC for a number of years at V5R3 and it's superb.
Really useful is the debugging capabilities, which makes testing code
so much easier.

We've now moved to V7R1 but I'm told there's no budget to upgrade
WDSC. And anyway it works on V7R1, which it does quite happily. But to
my dismay I can't get the debugger working.

I start the debug service on the system 'I' but when I take the option
to debug, nothing happens. Nothing appears in the “service entry points" tag.

Does anyone know of debug works for WDSC on V7R1?

I moved from IBM i 5.4 to 7.1 last September, and with it, I moved from WDSC 7.0.0.8 to RDP 8.5.1, but I kept my WDSC install because it was so reliable. I just fired WDSC 7.0.0.8 up again and SEP debugging works fine for me against IBM i 7.1.

Check that you have all of the PTFs you need. In RSE, open a connexion and under 'Objects' right click and select 'Verify Connection...' That will make sure you can connect as well as that all the PTFs WDSC wants are installed.
