That particular update option does not really update the RDP product at
all. That update functions ONLY for third-party plugins. For RDP product
updates, use the Installation Manager to download and apply updates from
IBM.

Subject: [WDSCI-L] RDP 8.5.0

I am a recent convert to RDP (well, trying to be). There are a number of
things that puzzle me. Today, when I start RSE I keep receiving java
errors. After I respond with OK (the only option available) the message
goes away and nothing appears to have changed.

I thought I would check for any updates to the product. I went under HELP
and then CHECK FOR UPDATES. Things churn for a bit and then a screen comes
up and tells me that I don't have any software sites selected and would I
like to select some. I respond that I would and up comes a lengthy list of
website addresses. Do I select them all? Or a specific one? Or some other
combination?

I thought I would look at the help screen to see if it would help me.
Selecting HELP gives me a screen with a search box in the upper left
corner. I entered some search text and pressed GO and the screen came back
telling me it was INDEXING and that this would happen only once. A green
bar in the lower right corner of the screen went back and forth a few times
and then the same blank screen I started with was presented with DONE on
the status line. Entering any other test resulted in DONE being displayed
almost immediately with no results.

So I ended the help screen and went back into it. Typed in my search text
and again the INDEXING bit came up and it's been sitting that way for about
30 minutes or so, the green bar in the lower right corner about half way
across its display box and not moving.

Can anyone give a newby a hand here?

(Running under Windows 7 64-bit. RDP was loaded about 2 weeks ago, no
updates)

Thanks,

Vic
