This is a different issue. I could spend an entire post just explaining
the various directories, but the short-short is that each installation
of a product uses two directories: a shared directory and a
product-specific directory. If you install two products, you end up
with three directories: one shared, and one for each product. Three
products, four directories, and so on.

The part that's throwing you is that this directort structure is always
the same no matter whether you install the products into separate
workbenches or the same workbench. If you're installing two products,
you get three directories. What makes them a single workbench (or not)
is if you install them into the same "package group". It's the package
group that identifies the components of a workbench.

Something that confuses the issue a bit more is that even if your
install RBD and RDi into the same workbench (which is what your rightly
surmise is what is called RDi-SOA), you still get two icons. One starts
RDi-SOA in RDPi mode, the other in RBD mode. There's some difference in
what you see the first time you start a new workspace, but not a lot
else I don't think.

If you really want to see what you've done, go to Installation Manager
and fire up the option View Installed Packages. This will give you a
rundown of each of your package groups and what is installed in each one.

Joe

Sorry Joe, I confused the issue with throwing out the 8.0 in my post.

My current installation is all 7.5.1. I have RDI for SOA, which came
with disks
for RDB& RDI, as well as HATS, and WAS 6.1 Test Environment. I first
installed
the RBD, the 6.1 Test Environment, then when I began install for RDI, it
forced
me to use a different install directory, and gave me 2 startup icons, 1
for RBD
and the other for RDI. So I assume I have 2 workbenches installed. I
would have thought that the install for RDI would have recognized that I
already
had RDB installed and guided me to install the RDI into the RDB
workbench.
But it did not, or I just missed it somewhere (twice, since I gave it 2
tries).

I brought up 8.0 because I do currently own RAD for Websphere 8.0 (but
have not
yet installed it), and I just ordered RDP 8.0. I'm hoping that I can get
the two 8.0 products to install and play nice together into 1 workbench,
as you
and everyone else seems to agree that it will do.

Thanks to everyone for your input,
Don
