The confusing thing for me, is that I tried reinstalling RBD& RDI with
combining them in mind. I installed RBD fine, but the Installation manager
still made me select a new target directory when installing RDI (which was boxed
with RBD). This left me with 2 installs. It was not intuitive at all on how
to combine them.
My install paths were
D:\Program files\IBM\SDP (for RBD) and
D:\Program files\IBM\RDI (for RDI)
My current install is 7.5, but I do have RAD for Websphere 8.0 (does not include
RSE), and just ordered RDP 8.0 (Passport Advantage Customer)
So am I assuming correctly that when I install RDP first, that it will later
prompt or allow me to install RAD into the same workbench (install directory)?
Thanks to everyone for their help and advice on this.

Could IBM possibly make this any more confusing?? Joe you did a great job
of explaining it but it still almost as clear as mud.

This is exactly correct. The idea behind the entire Rational delivery
mechanism is that you can buy separate components and then install them
together to create a workbench. For example, to enable the approximate
capabilities of the old WDSC you would install RDP and RAD together;
this gives you RPG development tools and Java EE development. The
RDi-SOA equivalent is an installation of RDP and RBD.
Note that you should also be able to install a second component into an
existing installation of another component. For example, installing RBD
into an existing RDP is (nearly) the same as installing them together,
although as Duane notes installing them together is probably faster.
You can also install fix packs at the same time; this is especially
helpful for network installs.
One caveat: there is currently a mismatch between RDP and RBD that will
NOT allow you to install RBD into RDP, although you can install RDP into
RBD or install them together. Well, technically you can install RBD
into RDP, but the workbench will not come up and you have to uninstall
RBD to get your RDP back. That should be fixed sometime in Q1.
Joe
Don;them and it installs both in one pass. Include the WAS servers you want
Install RAD 8.0 and RDP 8.0 in the same software package group.
We have both RAD and RDP 8.0 repositories on the network, we point IM to
and any fix packs in the repositories and, IMO, the installation is faster
than doing each separately.
You end up with all the tools in one instance of RDP.
You will need to check with IBM how to license this.
