Vern,

If you mean you cannot copy/paste general objects between connections, you
are correct. However, you can copy and paste programs and other objects
within the *same* connection. It's pretty clear to me when I keep in mind
that RSE is simply driving commands on the host. i.e., If I'm doing a
copy and paste of a program from one library to another, RSE submits a
CRTDUPOBJ command. Same with a data file. Since connections can be for
different systems or different environments on the same system and a
CRTDUPOBJ cannot target a different system, RSE rejects the attempt to
copy and paste across connections. In theory, it could check to see if
the connection is on the same system, but then you would have to deal with
all sorts of possibilities for different library lists when copying
logical files, etc. It's a design decision.

But as you say, it makes a good RFE to copy between systems using
ObjectConnect's SAVRST* set of commands. I think that would be great
enhancement.

Re: [WDSCI-L] Copy program from one connection to another

As I replied, WDSC has never been able to copy/paste an object other
than a SAVF - not so far as I know, anyhow. It has nothing to do with
filters. But I could be wrong on this. I hope someone tells us how,
because I hate having to create a SAVF for every object I want to copy
to another connection. I want the functionality of ObjectConnect, with
it's SAVRST* set of commands. Guess it's a candidate for a requirement
or RFE.
