If you have the CODE tools loaded on your PC, the editor has a compare
function on its actions menu. If you have not used the code editor, you
would probably be better off learning the WDSC compare function. But it
does display sequence numbers and the date area properly IMO. I used to
like the way it has color-coded bars summarizing the differences between
the source panels, but I have mostly given it up for the WDSC compare so
I don't have to leave the IDE.

Does 'Edit -> Compare to file ...' suit your needs? The toolbar button
is an uppercase letter delta (triangle with fat sides). The to the
right will let you move between differences, but in my experience it
only stops where code has been removed, or changed, not where code has
been added without modification of the original.
For side-by-side differences, the RSE Extensions plugin from Softlanding
is the only tool I know of that handles sequence numbers and the date
area intelligently.
