I am still on W2000 and get faster startups if I leave my PC active.
I have been putting my PC into 'standby' mode but every now and then it does not
'wake up' out of standby mode.

I have a somewhat related issue, though it's on XP. That PC only has a USB port available for a mouse connection. Under some seemingly totally random circumstances, maybe once a month, when the PC needs to be reawakened or reactivated or brought back from screen-saver or whatever the condition currently is where it's been locked, the mouse simply doesn't work.

Huge irritation to come back to it and discover that the mouse is "dead". Only keyboard activity is possible. The choice, then, is to keyboard through every open process to shut them down and then reboot, or to suffer through whatever work needs to be brought to a safe point until a reboot is rational.

/NOT/ a WDSC issue but a general PC issue. Regardless, it can sure how an irritating affect on WDSC work. (Not mention every other flippin' window that I might have open.) Learning all WDSC keyboard shortcuts can be a real work-saver.

The requirement for PC-locking can really put dents into an afternoon's productivity sometimes.
