When we evaluated the approaches offered by WebFacing and HATS, one of the things that stood out to us was that HATS was being moved forward while WebFacing stagnated. HATS is extensible via JSF (and it seems EGL support wouldn't be a big leap), while WebFacing is extended via Struts.

For WebFacing to be more acceptable to us, it needs to offer several features:
- Ability to extend via JSF (or EGL) instead of Struts.
- Written to web standards (i.e., "Your Favorite Browser"
will work)
- Use of Ajax, particularly for something like break
messages. One of our ideas is to funnel break
messages to a JMS queue and use comet to retrieve
those.
- We have applications that use the STRPCO command to
call web apps via a function key. It would be good
if there were a way in WebFacing to deal with these.

Subject: [WDSCI-L] WebFacing users: your thoughts on UI enhancements

When providing a UI Modernization solution, ultimately it’s all about the
resulting UI (User Interface) and UX (User Experience).
These are areas that have endless opportunities for improvements, and for
WebFacing this is no exception. In fact, it’s been lower on the priority
list for too long.
ENPTUI support? Better Subfile UI? Content Assist (e.g. Calendar widget
for date fields)?
What UI enhancements are highest on your list to directly improve end user
usability, enhance their experience, or enable the development of richer
WebFacing applications?
I’m open to rants as well. Feedback is valuable in any form.
