We have no SCM here at all. I'd call the TurnOver folks for the scoop
on how their product integrates System i and 'outside' code. My SVN
repository only has RPG, CL and DDS in it, but they're stored as stream
files (as you'd expect.)
I would be interested in finding out how far you took that "proof of
concept"?
My main goal was to work with WDSC's iSeries Projects, not just read
about it. I have access to a System i, so setting up the Subversion
repository (and associated web server) was a no-brainer for me. I'm not
sure how useful my experience is, because without a formal SCM we're
still stepping on each other's toes (between the SVN users and the PDM
users.)
I used iSeries Projects along with SVN for about two months, for the
full duration of a project. I didn't find anything to complain about
when it comes to SVN or the repository. I didn't have to restore the
repository from a backup, so I'm not sure how that would work.
Ultimately, I decided that iSeries Projects was mismatched enough with
my processes that I probably won't be using it in the future. Not that
there's anything wrong with iSeries Projects; it's just not really
suitable as a poor man's change management system. It probably works
fine as a way to perform offline editing; I just don't have a need for
that, and tried to twist it to do something it was not intended to do.
