I gave that a go too w/o a close.

When in the second view, I can alt click I get a menu that shows View as an
option, selecting that gives me the list of 'Open new view Ctrl+2',..., and
a 'Close view' option w/o a shortcut noted. But that closes the view which
is what I was after.
