I don't think that this is pushing the envelope

Well, my definition of pushing the envelope is pretty conservative: trying
to do something the tool doesn't do is pushing the envelope.

I appreciate that the WDSC team tries to take our input; on a lot of other
mailing lists (including those for some open source projects that I won't
name) you'd get a raft of posts saying that's how the product works and
explaining your options if you don't like it, most of which are anatomically
impossible.
