Heck, PHP is nearly 15 years old and was originally designed to do home
web sites and very little has happened to the language over the years.

I would have to call this an under informed statement. You can learn more
about PHP history here: http://www.php.net/history.

Also, based on the above url, PHP is 13 yrs old.

Whoa whoa whoa.

Good ol' Rasmus built the original PHP/FI to help him with his personal
homepage. Over time, he added a bunch of code, but it really was originally
just his own personal tools. That's probably why he released it as ...
(drum roll) ... "Personal Home Page Tools".

Suraski and Gutmans had to rewrite the language entirely because the
original wouldn't work for real applications, and they renamed it to the
recursive acronym "PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor".

The point here is that nobody uses the original PHP any more than anybody
would use the original Cross System Product. I'm not knocking PHP per se, I
just found it funny that Jon would complain that EGL evolved out of CSP. In
my mind, when a product evolves and changes, that shows more life than a
flash in the pan that may or may not be around tomorrow. Then again, I am a
big advocate of RPG, the midrange platform and even Java, which is roughly
as old as PHP (maybe a little older, if you count its predecessor, Oak).

Uh... since when is 13 NOT nearly 15? <grin>
