It sure was a fun product, and it presented data in ways that users had never seen. I still remember one application that I did that ended up showing a manger what had happened in her department since she'd taken it over. :) Her first reaction was that the graph was wrong, the second reaction was to ask for, and get, a substantial raise.

The decision to not enhance VARPG was effectively made by its non- users - not really by IBM. Despite being "free" it was ignored by the vast majority despite being promoted at COMMON and other User events for years. Sure there was more IBM could have done with it, but they constantly updated its compiler support, added Java generation capability, and more. Still people stayed away in their thousands.

Pity - it was a fun product - but the market spoke!
