From: Rob Rogerson

I'm currently using WDSc 7.0 on a 2.66 GHz Pentium 4 with 1.74 GB of Ram.
Basic editing works okay but if I try other functionality (such as Outline
view refresh) the response is measured in minutes. I have been given the
go ahead to purchase additional hardware to make this more workable.

Basic performance of WDSC is affected by (in order): disk speed, RAM and CPU
speed. If you can get a 10K disk drive, do so. You will not be
disappointed.

The Outline view, though, is a different issue. Since this is a
client/server function that potentially requires access to many System i
objects, it can be affected by a number of things including network latency,
host load, and caching on your workbench.

A better measure of the workstation performance is to try to run a simple
Hello World program in Java. An even better acid test is to try and run a
JavaServer Page. Both those options are entirely workstation-bound and will
better identify whether your workstation is the bottleneck.

On the other hand, if simply getting a library list or opening a source
member is measured in tens of seconds or even minutes, then you may have a
network issue.
