I think the key point to look at in Dave's response is "even if they
checked" with *if* being the operative word. I believe the important part
is that you "have a current System i Software Maintenance or Software
Subscription contract." With that criteria met, you are 'entitled' to the
product. My guess is that the announcement references V5R3 and V5R4
because they are the releases specifically targeted for version 7. V5R2
works okay from what I've heard, but IBM's dropping support for it in a
few weeks. Keep in mind I'm not IBM and can't speak for them (commonly
referenced as YMMV).

That's kind of what my question was about.

AFAIK, we don't have v5r3 in a box somewhere.

If we order v5r3 or v5r4, then we'd get v7 anyway.

It is just that it'd be quicker and easier to get the required internal
request sheets filled out to
order WDSCi v7 than it would to order OS/400 v5r4.
