I have to agree and disagree. I agree it was painless. I agree it was fast. I agree it was the best in 20+ years. However... :) They really need to work on deciding what to call things. First, InstallShield is loaded to install the IBM Install Manager. Then, the Install Manager is installed. Then a "Rational something or another" is installed (hint: This is WDSC) Then a beautiful screen appears with "IBM" in the lower left hand corner. Nothing else on the screen except some Apple iPhone-style pictograms. After about 20 minutes of waiting for something to happen, I moved the mouse and discovered those were funky icons that needed to be clicked. Apparently the bentover backwas arrow is the secret to finding the Princess in this app. Sounds bad, but it wasn't. The goal of this release is got encourage non-WDSC users to start using it, hence assuming existing WDSC users are installing it is not logical. Assume that a text-based SEU/PDM/SDA user is installing it and their only other experience is Microsoft Office, or even Microsoft Visual Studio. Or better yet, give me a prompt when I pull it off the system that asks: "What components do you want to install?" "Where do you want them installed?" "Do you want me to launch into WDSC RSE Workbench" when finished?" Then I'll fill those questions out, pressn Okay and go to lunch. 30+ minutes later, it'll be sittting there waiting for me to do something fun. -Bob Cozzi

The big deal to me, is that this is best IBM installation experience I have ever had after installing IBM software for 20+ years. It went in fast, it went in clean and so far it works flawlessly. I have been using Eclipse 3.2 for a while and this new release of Rational and WDSC brings a lot of new functionality to the table. A really great change is that it behaves like a real Eclipse plug-in, which might mean that IBM will be able stay up with new Eclipse releases. Please say this comes with a DVD. I'll probably stick with version 6 since I use code designer for screens, but just in case loading from 1DVD beats multiple CDs anyday. The way programs keep getting bigger we will need multiple DVDs soon. I copied the 10 CD images to disk and installed the whole shebang in less that and hour with no problems... and I did not have to un-install 6.0.1 Thank you!!!
