Hi Michael, it is true that the component tag library and the Interaction wizard are deprecated in V7. They are still available in V7 but we have added a message when you use these tools. The message indicates that the tools are deprecated to make you aware of the fact that they will eventually not being provided anymore. We suggest to use the Java Server Faces (jsf) tooling instead, these tools provide very good support for writing Web applications and they are part of the base set of tooling provided for Web development in WDSC.
From the jsf tools you can build connectivity to your RPG programs by
using a Program call bean. Program Call beans can be created with the program call wizard, so it is pretty easy to write jsf Web applications with RPG code at the backend using the jsf tools in combination with the program call bean wizard. You can bind the UI controls to variables in the Program Call Bean inside Page Designer without writing Java code. This makes getting data from the UI controls to your RPG or from the RPG to your UI controls very easy. There is no migration tool from the interaction wizard to jsf. We are providing a tutorial that shows how to use the jsf tools and the program call bean wizard to write a simple web application, similar to the tutorial that we had before for the interaction wizard. For the subfile control, there is no direct replacement for it provided at the moment, we are looking into it. We suggest to look at the Relational Record List control that is part of the jsf tools to see if it can provide the functionality you need. The jsf tutorial also shows how to use the relational record list and connect to DB2 on System i. My question is, is there a conversion tool to the JSF Widget Library and will I be able to maintain an existing wit under V7.0. Also, does anyone know when there will be "simple" subfile support for web applications?
