If all the lines are contiguous - make a rectangle selection across 
all the lines in column 7 - Alt-R at top and bottom - then 
right-click and under "Selected" take the fill option - you will be 
prompted for the character - put in the asterisk

This has been offered for ways to blank out the first 5 columns in other
posts.
