Ultra Edit is nice, but convincing the powers that be to spend any money for a 'one time' use such as this might be difficult.

I've tried all the others but have yet to see a reason to use anything else (except that I did eventually convince myself to buy a full version of NoteTab). I.e., there are more or fewer features here and there, but the overall seems as good as it gets. NTL is the freeware version. Assuming your system can supply the resources, I'm pretty sure a 2GB file is is possible. (It can handle 2GB files of at least some types for certain.)

As long as you keep in mind that it's an "editor" rather than a "word processor", things should work well.

And they have a couple other handy freeware programs too.
