Been there, done that.

Shaved off 8MB, so it's not really helping.

Seems like the spooledFiles are not included in the cache...

By now, I'm tempted to just delete the .txt files in that directory.

I've always just deleted a bunch of files from the 
'RemoteSystemsTempFiles' directory when my workspace gets big.  I believe 
there is an RSE preference where you can set the maximum size of the file 
cache.
