Darrell,While EGL comes with WDSc, it is not Websphere. It is a Rational tool from IBM Software Group that, being based on Eclipse, was added the the WDSc toolset.
Websphere is a brand - with many products. The ones that directly affect us are: - Websphere Development Studio and Websphere Development Studio client are the tools which we develop with on System i - including RPG, DDS, CL, etc. - Websphere Application Server is a java middleware server that allows you to deploy java applications to the web. This is the one that is considered a little slower than regular green screen - and it often is, since it requires lots of CPW horsepower, and most people with a smaller server don't have that power available.

Thanks Joe; I appreciate your explaination. Sounds like something I'll look into more. I have been interested in websphere for a long time, and now at this company, I am finally getting the opportunity? to use it, and in that framework consider myself a "newby" although I have been programming RPG for 15plus yrs. I have been on this site, being a quite "listener" to the comments and discussions going on. I am getting the impression, although websphere has been around a long time, it's still way behind the effeciency of using plain ole "greenscreen" rpg. You know the questions, how do I do this, how do I do that, why doesn't this work... kind of thing. Comments from anyone. Darrell Lee Information Technology
