David - seems you are long past when I would have called IBM support - if you
have a support contract (most of us do now), they are great for getting this
stuff to work.

Now I want to know why F4 in RSE does not bring up the SQL editor as it does in
SEU (sometimes!). But then I can't get it to find fix 2 in the updater either -
yikes! Time to call IBM support, I think!

Thanks, I am completely baffled. I can use STRQM and STRSQL which I
verified. I then tried C/EXEC SQL again in a SQLRPG member and it worked.
Before, there was a message stating that the directive didn't exist, now the
message says there are no SQL instructions. I will try to create my first
SQLRPG as soon as possible.

Ps before you think me completely mad, no one else was able to type C/EXEC
SQL either. We have been trying on and off for years. When we were on V5R2
and it didn't work, we waited for V5R3 and it still didn't work.

Can you use the STRQM or STRSQL commands to build SQL based queries? If so,
then you should be able to build embedded SQL programs. If not, then you
could use some lower-level alternatives (note: low-level does not mean
low-functionality) like the SQL-CLI api's or the extended dynamic SQL api's
(QSQPRCED). These are a bit more work to get going, but they are supported
on all os400 boxes, so once you've learned it, you can use it whenever you
need....

I can't use /exec sql in SEU either.
I can open an SQL interactive session and I can use RUNSQLSTM.
I just assumed that I could use SQL in an RPG pgm.

Do you have the SQL licensed product installed?

Thanks but it is SQLRPGLE.
As soon as I type /E, I get a list of choices from /END-FREE, /ENDIF etc but
no /EXEC SQL.

Check the source member type. It should be SQLRPGLE.

I can't even type /EXEC SQL in WDSc 5.1

As soon as I reach /EX, an error message tells me that the directive is
unknown. Can anyone help?

Try putting a C before the +.

On 9/15/06, Alan Campin wrote:

I have SQL statements in an RPG IV program that look like this:

C/EXEC SQL
+ Declare C2 Cursor for
+ select a.fitemf, b.wkctrf, sum(a.qtyrcf),
+ sum(b.sslhuf), sum(b.slhtdf), sum(b.srlhuf * a.qtyrcf),
+ sum(b.rlhtdf), c.pfdsc2
+ from cstsum a join labeff b
+ on a.ordnof = b.ordnof and a.fitemf = b.fitemf
+ join facmstl0 c on b.wkctrf = c.pfidc2
+ where a.ostatf between '45' and '55' and a.qtyrcf > 0
+ and a.latdtf >= :SDATE and a.latdtf < :LRDATE
+ and a.fitemf = :ITEM# and b.opstcf <> 00
+ group by a.fitemf, b.wkctrf, c.pfdsc2
C/END-EXEC

If I run this program through the compiler, everything compiles fine but

if I use the verify in WDSC, I get errors on each line with a "+".

C/EXEC SQL
+ Delete from LEADSWRK
RNF0257: Form-Type entry for main procedure not valid or out of
sequence.
C/END-EXEC

Anyone else running into this? I am up to date with all fixes in V6.0.
